A New Year's Eve Myth?

A few weeks ago I wrote about how I was worried that I would end up without plans for New Years. I ended up with some and had a fantastic time, but as I have been listening around and reading, a lot of people had a low key New Year’s Eve. I am hearing more of "just chilled at home," or "waited until midnight and went to bed."

Is this because I am getting older and therefor everyone I know is getting older and New Years isn’t as exciting as it once was?

Or is it really because the media and "society" make too big of a deal of New Years? All of a sudden one night of the year is the one night to go out and get crazy. What about the other nights of the year I stay up until midnight with my friends and have too much to drink? Don’t those count?

Here I thought that I was going to be a loser for possible spending New Years without big plans, but I think that’s what the world wants me to think. In actuality, if I hadn’t done anything, I probably would’ve been exactly like a good portion of the world’s population.

And really, if I am not kissing anyone at New Years when I am out, then what is the big deal?

I just hope I remember next New Years to come here and reread this so I don’t feel so bad with New Years approaching.
