just got done reading the most amazing book, Spilling Clarence by Anne Urusu. It is about a small town, Clarence, where there is a psychopharmaceutical factory. One day there is an explosion and a drug lingers in the air. It makes everyone remember everything. All of these people's memories come back with complete details. For some, it is a great thing. One woman can remember how awesome her mother was before mental illness set in. For some people, it is horrible. One man goes into a coma after starting to remember all the terrible things in his life. But whether the memories are good or bad, the people in the town all start to deteriorate because everything is so overwhelming.
But that is what makes the book so great, the way the writer writes, you can feel the confusion of each person's memories and how crazy it must feel. I mean, can you imagine; every number, every song, every flower, every smell, EVERYTHING brings back some memory. And this happens all day long.
Anyhoo, this is going in the top five of my favorite books. And it makes me mad is that I don't own it. It was really hard to find. It wasn't sold in the bookstore and all the libraries had copies that were missing or damaged (now missing I understand, people want to keep the awesomeness, but damaged? That's just wrong). I finally got it from the main library downtown after looking for it for two months. I think I might have to just order it from Amazon or something. It's just too good to not have within my reach.
